EDAM’s ongoing work on nuclear energy intends to contribute to the public debate on nuclear energy by providing a thorough and impartial analysis on Turkey’s nuclear power program. This year’s analysis breaks new ground by focusing on some under-explored dimensions of this program. The collection of policy papers incorporated in this book examines the policies related to the physical security of nuclear power plants, Turkey’s accident and consequence management approach, the transport security of radioactive materials and nuclear waste, the financial, safety and security risks inherent in the unique Build-Own-Operate investment model that is to underpin the Akkuyu nuclear power plant project. The book also explores the prospects for regional cooperation in nuclear energy against the backdrop of the rekindled interest among regional states to acquire nuclear power plants.
