We present to your attention the EDAM policy paper titled “After the Midterms: What Changes for Türkiye’s Defence Industry,” written by EDAM Board Member Can Selçuki and Dr. Ahmet Erdi Öztürk.

This paper examines what the Democratic capture of both chambers of Congress in the November 3 midterm elections means for Türkiye. It argues that the result will make US policymaking more contested rather than reverse it, bringing closer scrutiny of arms transfers, sanctions and spending. Treating the F-35 prohibition, the KAAN engine sale and CAATSA sanctions as separate legal tracks, it shows why personal rapport between leaders cannot override a statute. The paper calls on Ankara to address the S-400 question directly, broaden its engagement in Washington beyond the White House, and reduce long-term dependence on single foreign suppliers.
